Let Bengal & TN decide on airport modernisation:

New Delhi:The civil aviation ministry suggested the Prime Minister to let the West Bengal and Tamil Nadu governments decide on how to modernise Kolkata and Chennai airports.
The government wants to play safe since it involves allies. The decision to let the West Bengal government decide about the privatisation of Kolkata airport was aimed at avoiding confrontation with the Left parties.
While the PMO would soon take a decision on this, the government gave a green signal to the modernisation of 35 non-metro airports.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has also directed Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel to improve airports and air connectivity in the northeast. Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim will also get new airports.
