Banglore airport to be redesigned for efficient travel

The proposed Bangalore airport is being redesigned. CNBC-TV18 reports that it might take more than a modern airport to make for efficient travel. The new Bangalore International Airport will come up 35 kilometres from the city. The construction work is on in full swing and the airport is expected to be ready by 2008. When its ready this airport is expected to make travelling more passenger friendly. Bangalore International Airports Limited officials say the airport will be able to handle 11 million people a year.Even so, passengers might find it tough to get to the airport, the National Highways Authority of India is building a six-lane road from the city to the airport. But it would take atleast an hour to get to the airport on this road half as long as it takes fly between Bangalore and Mumbai.
So, BIAL has proposed a dedicated rail link between the city and the airport. This would cut commuting time but the rail link awaits official approval.
