Bengal joins race for Boeing's MRO

Kolkata: After Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, West Bengal too has approached US-based aircraft manufacturer Boeing to set up its US $100 million Maintenance-Repair-Overhaul (MRO) hub in the state. A team of West Bengal government officials met Boeing officials at its headquarters in Washington recently and urged the aircraft giant to locate the facility in West Bengal. Sabyasachi Sen, secretary for State Commerce & Industries said, "We told Boeing official that the state government would provide land and related infrastructure at the location chosen by the company. It could either be adjacent to the existing airport in Dum Dum or next to the proposed new airport on the southern fringe of the city."
When told that Boeing had already zeroed on Nagpur for the proposed MRO, Sen said "We were told that the exact location had yet to be decided by Boeing."
