Air Deccan to desist GDS

Mumbai: Air Deccan has decided to desist going online with any of the existing GDS in spite of the domestic BSP and the impending inevitability of e-ticketing.
The airline is also keen to add more stations while intending to consolidate operations with the existing fleet to maintain its position as the country's most networked carrier. Air Deccan CEO, Warwick Brady, told Express TravelWorld that traditionally the world over, low-cost carriers have never relied on GDS for distribution - Ryanair exited its contract with the GDS and easyJet never got on to one.
Air Deccan deploys several distribution channels including a tie-up with State Bank of India to offer online ticketing and with AFL to sell online through a chain of travel shops. Brady instead emphasised on other revenue boosting strategies like selling items and space onboard to customers and companies respectively. The airline will also consider integrated packages with hotels.
