'Air-Kerala will be a reality soon'

Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister V.S.Achuthanandan Wednesday said that Air-Kerala would soon become a reality.
'The project has not been shelved. We are pursuing it in the right earnest and we are certain that it would become a reality,' Achuthanandan told reporters after the weekly cabinet meeting.
Air-Kerala was a dream project of the previous Oommen Chandy government. It had formed a company with a share capital of Rs.200 million. It was decided at the first board meeting that Rs.148 million of the share capital would be open to public for subscription.
But the central government will have to relax some rules to enable its take-off. According to rules, for any airline to go international it has to have 20 aircraft and a five-year operation period in the domestic sector.
