Boeing projects India jet demand at $72bn

New Delhi: Boeing projected India's market for new commercial airplanes would be worth more than $72bn over the next 20 years on the back of the country's robust economy and strong growth of freight transport andair travel.
"Economic growth, liberalisation and airlines' operational efficiencies are three fundamental drivers behind the increase in air travel in India," said Dinesh Keskar, senior vice-president of sales for Boeing in south and south-east Asia.
Boeing highlighted projections for 856 new commercial jets in India over the next two decades in a briefing on Monday in New Delhi. The company has won orders worth about $15bn from Indian carriers so far.
In its annual market outlook, Boeing forecast India's growing demand for aircrafts as airlines add flights to meet passenger demand. It also predicted a big increase in the air freight market to support India's exports, which are expected to grow 5-6 per cent annually for the next 20 years.
