CITU ready to leave airport building

Kolkata: The Centre for Indian Trade Unions (CITU) said its airport contract workers’ union is ready to vacate the building in the security zone that it has occupied forcibly and illegally for around two years to use as its office.
Admitting that it is illegal possession, CITU claimed that the building was used by the thousands of contract workers, taxi drivers and their helpers as a resting room, and was not the registered office of its union.
Reacting to The Indian Express report (Left blocks Kolkata airport revamp over security, but its union grabs building inside, August 28), Amitava Nandy, CPI(M) Member of Parliament from Dum Dum said he would have the prominent union signboard removed.
Pranab Chakraborty, the secretary of the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Ground Workmens’ Union, said the union was ready to quit the building when asked to do so.
