Floods ground Visakhapatnam airport again

Hyderabad: The airport in the coastal city of Visakhapatnam was Friday flooded forcing authorities to cancel all flights for the second consecutive day and bringing back memories of last year when it remained closed for two weeks thanks to floods.
There was two-to-three-feet water flooding the runway and the space around the terminal building as heavy rains due to the impact of low-pressure area over Bay of Bengal lashed most parts of Andhra Pradesh.
Water from a nearby reservoir also gushed into the terminal building and offices of various airlines forcing the employees to run for safety.
The airport building and equipment have suffered damage due to the Flooding. The electricity supply to the building was disconnected to prevent any short circuit, airport authorities said.
