Kolkata, Chennai airports plan soon

New Delhi: India is cruising ahead with plans to upgrade the airport infrastructure across the main metros in a bid to meet the growing air traffic needs of the country.
Under this initiative, final roadmap for upgrading Kolkata and Chennai airports would be finalised within next month after detailed discussions with the governments of West Bengal and Tamil Nadu.
Besides, the government is also cruising ahead with plans to build a second airport - a greenfield one - in Mumbai with the project getting the green signal from International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Friday met civil aviation minister Praful Patel and sought an update on the upgradation process of the two airports.
