New airport management has no room for six GMs

Mumbai: Thursday marks the end of an era at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, with the complete transfer of management control from the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to joint venture firm Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL).
And this change will be mirrored in its top brass.
Of the eight top AAI management heads at the airport, six have been shown the door. These officials will now have to report to the AAI’s Western Region office, until further orders.
‘‘Four general managers from Finance, Administration and Operations have been deputed to the Western Region office. The rest will be repatriated as per AAI orders,’’ said AAI Executive Director (Western Region) S R R Rao.
According to sources, Airport Director R J Treasuryvala and General Manager (Cargo) S P Ray have job offers from MIAL.
While the airport was handed over to MIAL on May 3, there was a three-month transition period.
