Parties unite for Cooch Behar airport

Cooch Behar: Cutting across party lines, political leaders of Cooch Behar have decided to take up the issue of resumption of air service between Kolkata and Cooch Behar with the Union civil aviation minister, Mr Praful Patel.
The CPI-M, Congress and the Trinamul Congress leaders of Cooch Behar will also knock on the chief minister, Mr Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and the Union information and broadcasting minister, Mr Priya Ranjan Das Munshi, urging them to persuade the Centre to resume the much-needed air service between Kolkata and Cooch Behar.
Earlier, before the Assembly elections it was declared that the proposed air service might begin in mid-April this year. However, the date was differed to September later. But last Thursday, the Union civil aviation minister reportedly told the Parliament that the work to modernise the Cooch Behar airport is progressing and flights would be introduced next year only.
