Centre asks Allahabad HC to vacate stay on Haj subsidy

Lucknow: The Centre has moved the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court seeking the vacation of its stay on granting financial subsidies to pilgrims of any community, saying the order could jeopardise the Haj pilgrimage and the Kailash Mansarovar yatra.
The matter is expected to come up before the court tomorrow. In an application filed yesterday, the Centre said arrangements for this year's Haj had started and that it had signed an agreement with Saudi Arabian authorities for sending 1.47 lakh people for the pilgrimage.
National carrier Air India has issued tender notices and invited bids to lease aircraft to enable it to transport some of the pilgrims, the application said.
