'No-frills airlines must be encouraged'

Dubai: More no-frills air carriers will pop up in the Middle East, Gulf and Indian sub-continent if policies are deregulated.
Shaikh Ahmad Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation and Chairman and CEO of Emirates Group, said: "I think we will see more of them if the policy in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) is de-regulated, allowing carriers to operate with whatever frequency to a number of airports."
In an interview with "Emerging Dubai 2006" the latest edition of the highly authoritative annual business, economic and political review produced by the UK's Oxford Business Group Shaikh Ahmad adds this applies not only in the GCC but also to the rest of the region, because most of the low-cost carriers operate within a one-, two-, three- or maximum four-hour range because they have one type of aircraft and they shuttle from airport to airport.
