Patiala: Delhi boy Saurav Khandelwal joined the Patiala Flying Club to realize his dream of becoming a pilot.
The flying club is one of the oldest in the country but the 20-year-old found it in a shambles.
Of the two trainer aircraft there, only one was functional that too a 50 year old Pushpak.
At least five trainer aircraft is the norm for a flying club of its size.
Students could clock only 10 flying hours a month while they need a minimum of 200 flying hours to qualify for a CPL or commercial pilot license.
"The conditions are pretty bad. There's just one plane and around 150 to 200 students. It takes very long time – at least two years as the flying club people say - but it takes a minimum four years," says Khandelwal.
