Changi Intl eyes Kolkata's proposed 2nd airport

Kolkata: Changi Airport International has shown interest in building Kolkata’s controversial second airport, the one that chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee is trying hard to promote despite stiff opposition from central civil aviation minister Praful Patel.
While Changi’s interest is understandable following its failure to bag the modernisation projects of Delhi and Mumbai airports, state industry and commerce minister Nirupam Sen’s interest stems from seeing the world-class airport that the company has built in Singapore.
“Just after we returned from the visit on October 22, we received a letter from their India office mentioning their keenness to come down to Kolkata and discuss the project,” Sen said while briefing reporters on his visits to Japan and Singapore.
