Kerala travel body bats for foreign airlines

The Kerala Association of Travel Agents (KATA) Sunday urged the state's lawmakers to take up the case of five foreign airlines which have been waiting for the permission to use Thiruvananthapuram airport.
'Saudi Airlines, Mahan Air, Malaysia Airlines, Air Arabia and Etihad Airlines are waiting for the nod from the central government to fly into the airport here,' KATA president K.V. Muraleedharan told reporters.
Saudi Airlines had first applied in 1998 but was denied the permission, he said.
'The matter should be taken up as Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is going to lay the foundation stone for the new airport here Nov 1 which would be ready in 18 months,' said Muraleedharan.
