Video-on-demand in 23 new Air India Boeings

New Delhi: Twenty-three new Boeing 777 aircraft of Air India will have digital audio and video-on-demand on every seat in both upper and business class sections as part of the airline's plan to upgrade in-flight entertainment.
The equipment will be procured from the French aerospace, defence and electronics giant Thales and will be delivered by February next year, said an official of the state-owned international carrier.
Called the Thales TopSeries system, the equipment comes with a 23-inch display for the first class, 15-inch screen for the business class and 10.6-inch model for the economy class -- all with touch-screen operations, the official added.
Thales, according to officials, had a 40 percent market share in the in-flight entertainment business last year and ranks among the top three players in the market.
