Work on Mangalore Airport terminal building to begin soon

Mangalore: The Airports Authority of India (AAI) is likely to take up work on the construction of the integrated terminal building at Bajpe airport in January 2007, according to K. Ramalingam, chairman, AAI, Delhi.
Addressing a gathering at the Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) here on Wednesday, he said the AAI had invited tenders for the construction of the terminal building at the airport.
The terminal building should come up in 19 months. If everything went well, work on the construction of the terminal building would begin in January 2007, he said.
KCCI president John Prasad Menezes, who felicitated Mr. Ramalingam on the occasion, submitted a memorandum to him addressed to Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Praful Patel. The memorandum said that Mangalore had the potential to become a regional aviation hub. The Ministry should take a proactive role in promoting the region.
