CAPA calls for India to increase foreign ownership in local carriers
Kapil Kaul calls for India to increase the limitation on foreign ownership of local carriers from 49% to 74%, in his speech at the Outlook 2007. Mr Kaul also wanted the government to rewrite the laws prohibiting equity stakes being held by non-Indian airlines.
Mr Kaul, Centre of Asia Pacific Aviation, Indian Subcontinent & Middle East CEO said, “The renaissance that occurred in India’s mobile telecommunications sector would not have happened without the transfer of skills and technology that came with the participation of companies like SingTel. The airline industry needs this kind of assistance.”
Also on his agenda, Mr Kaul wished to encourage the government to consider liberalising the policies to allow for foreign investment in airline training companies.
