New DGCA rules to give airlines more leeway

New Delhi: A DGCA circular on October 25, 2006, says prior permission will not be required by scheduled operators for additional operations in four areas. Instead, they can intimate DGCA about such operations the same or next working day.
These are being done, says the circular, as "operators approach DGCA for flight clearance at the last moment and at odd hours, to re-route or ferrying of aircraft for the purpose of carrying out flight training of crew members, etc."
The four areas where prior sanction is not needed are:
To operate a flight with changed equipment.
To operate a flight to an airport where crew training will be carried out, provided the flight is non-revenue. "Flights where trainees are given hands-on training can't be done at major airports where traffic is dense.
These are undertaken at odd hours at smaller airports. As they don't carry passengers, regular security screening and other measures aren't needed. The airline only has to take the clearance from the airport concerned," says an airline source.
