UK offers to help WB build second airport

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee's bid to build a second airport here in a private-public partnership (PPP) model on Thursday received a shot in the arm with Britain expressing interest in investing in the venture.
"We are keen to work in the area of infrastructure like transport, ports and potential private airports," Britain's Trade, Investments and Foreign Affairs Minister Ian McCartney said after a meeting with Bhattacharjee.
Bhattacharjee, however, declined to comment on the British proposal, saying he would speak only if anything materialised in future.
The possibility of investment in the IT sector was also discussed, McCartney said, describing it as a "growing sector" in the state.
