Ministry asks airlines to reduce fine on overseas patients

New Delhi: To reduce the penalties levied on overseas patients for changing their date of journey on return flights, tourism ministry is meeting all the international airlines operating from India. The ministry’s point is that the airlines should at best waive off such penalties or at least reduce it since patients stay is dependent on the recovery and cannot be planned.
Currently, there is no differential arrangement for patients and a change in the date of return could cost them as high as $500 per ticket depending on which scheme they fall in. However, there are tickets issued which are open and could be used within the specified time frame, an industry analyst said.
In the absence of a specific concession patients have to shell out anything from $100- $500 per ticket for change in the date of journey.
