Officials ground air safety drill

Lucknow: District magistrate of Agra and his deputy were too busy to reach Agra airport when they were informed that a hijacked plane had landed there.
Thankfully, there was no damage done because it was a mock exercise. That was August 29, 2006.
How serious the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) was about its own exercise could be gauged from the fact that it informed the UP government about the lapses on the part of the then Agra DM and the ADM, three months after the incident.
Taking a serious note of the attitude of the district officials including the DM who is a member of the aerodrome committee at the airport level, the BCAS has requested the state government to direct the district authorities to participate in any future anti-hijacking mock exercise for ensuring preparedness to meet an exigency.
