Steps taken to ease traffic congestion at airports: Govt

New Delhi: Government has taken a number of steps like constructing high speed exit taxiways to deal with heavy traffic congestion at Delhi and Mumbai airports.
In a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha, Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel said new high speed exit taxiways at Delhi and Mumbai airports have been constructed and some more are under construction.
"A parallel taxi-track has been constructed at Delhi airport by which runway occupancy time has been reduced considerably," he said adding flights were getting delayed mainly at Delhi and Mumbai airports.
He said an improved air traffic control (ATC) has been framed and a clearance delivery position has been established at Mumbai and Delhi airports.
Restrictions have also been imposed on general aviation aircraft movement during peak period at Delhi and Mumbai airports, the Minister said adding ATC automation system at Delhi and Mumbai are being upgraded.
