Indonesia throws hat into Indian outbound ring

Mumbai: Encouraged by the continual exponential growth in Indian outbound in 2006, Indonesia has thrown its hat into the ring, hoping that its two recent initiatives - the visa on arrival facility and marketing tie-up with SIA specifically to target the Indian and Chinese market translate into an inbound windfall in 2007. While most of Indonesia's major incoming markets recorded a decline in 2005, inbound figures for India, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, South Korea and China PRC actually increased last year. Visa-on-arrival facilities and additional flight frequencies for China, India and Korea had a positive effect on arrivals from these countries, according to Thamrin B Bachri, director general (marketing), department of culture and tourism, Government of Indonesia.
