JAL To Restructure International Routes

Japan Airlines said on Wednesday it would reorganize its international flights to focus on more profitable routes, expecting the restructuring to help boost its profits by about JPY7 billion yen (USD$58 million).
JAL, whose finances have been severely damaged by high fuel prices, said it would also introduce Boeing 737-800 aircraft on some of its China and Vietnam routes to increase fuel
Aiming to attract more business travellers, it will introduce first-class seats on its domestic routes.
For the current year JAL forecasts a net profit of JPY3 billion (USD$25 million) but it is relying on one-off gains to achieve that target.
JAL said it would increase flight frequency on eight routes between Japan and France, the United States, China, India, Russia and Vietnam. For example, it will offer 13 weekly flights between Tokyo and New York from March, up from 10 now.
It will scrap its service to Zurich, a flight that has mainly attracted leisure travellers and has been offered only in the summer, while reducing the frequency of flights to Hong Kong and Guangzhou.
