Nagpur: Maharashtra Airport Development Corporation (MADC) has filed a petition before the Central Water Regulatory Board against the state irrigation department for overcharging on water for a project of theirs.
The state irrigation department has demanded payment of Rs 34.59 by MADC to draw water from the Wadgaon dam for their multi-modal passenger and cargo hub (Mihan) project, which the latter claims is unjust.
"The irrigation department has asked for Rs 34.59 crore for obtaining permission to draw water from their Wadgaon dam, situated at about 34 km from the project," MADC Managing Director R C Sinha told reporters today.
"This was unjust and after apprising the whopping charges to the state Chief Secretary and Chief Minister, MADC has approached CWRB. We will abide by CWRB's decision in either case," Sinha said.
MADC would require 40 million litres per day (MLD) water and the Wadgaon dam was short-listed after consultants and officials approved it. MADC had deposited the amount under protest as the work should not suffer, he said.
