Bad air day: 5 near-misses

New Delhi: A Jet Airways flight coming from Chennai to Delhi had to be redirected to Jaipur while a Saudi Airlines Jumbo had to make an emergency landing on Thursday after one of its engines developed a serious snag.
Earlier on Thursday, an Indian flight going to Mumbai made a precautionary landing after the plane developed a snag. The Delhi-Mumbai-Calicut flight, IC-657, had taken off at 6.55 am with 145 passengers and 10 crew and returned at 7.47 am after pilots suspected a fuel leak.
The bad air day extended to Bangalore, where a jet trainer veered off the runway during the Aero India 2007 air show. It triggered a huge scare but the pilot wasn't injured. It didn't end there, for there was an emergency landing at Kolkata airport as well.
Late Wednesday, an Air Lanka plane had taken an uncommissioned turn into a taxiway after landing at IGI, forcing the closure of the main runway for about 20 minutes.
