Budget carriers to board global ticketing network

Mumbai: Budget carriers may soon be able to offer tickets on the global distribution system (GDS), a ticket facilitation network that till now has primarily been used by full service carriers, like Jet Airways, Air-India or Indian Airlines.
Leading international GDS enabled travel facilitators such as Abacus, Galileo and Amedeus are in talks with country’s low-fare carriers to bring them into this integrated system.
GDS is a system in which the member travel agents are allowed access to various ticket offers of the airlines within their system. It also enables them to search for the lowest prices on offer from all of the airlines.
What is the benefit of GDS for budget carriers? “Joining a GDS platform will widen the distribution system of budget carriers across the country. The inventory of these budget carriers will be accessible to all travel agents using Abacus, Galileo or Amedeus facility,” industry analysts said.
