Exhibition of Delhi's aviation history to be opened today

New Delhi: Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) has put together an exhibition on the aviation history of Delhi that will be inaugurated here on Saturday.
From the first machines that flew into the Capital to the first woman who made history by taking to the air -- Sarla Sharma Thakral -- the exhibition is about these pioneers who seem to have been forgotten in an age of gleaming machinery and instant communication.
"This exhibition focuses on Delhi and the surrounding airports like Jodhpur and Gwalior," said Anuraddha Reddy, who has curated the exhibition.
Being the Capital, the grassy airstrips of Delhi were either for men in uniform or hobby flyers. And tracing the journey from Safdarjung to Palam, the exhibition gives viewers a chance to really understand the magnitude of the aviation boom.
The exhibition will be on view behind Centaur Hotel near the airport.
