Pune: A court of inquiry has been ordered into Friday’s incident when a Su 30 MKI of the Indian Air Force (IAF) made a precautionary landing at the Lohegaon air base. While there was no damage to the aircraft and no one was hurt in the incident, the inquiry has been instituted as part of standard procedures of the Air Force. Air safety officials of the IAF will now scrutinize the landing — involving the country’s most advanced fighter aircraft — and submit a report on the incident.
The Su 30 MKI made a precautionary landing on Friday afternoon after the pilots suspected a snag in the aircraft. Civilian traffic was held up for almost two hours as emergency services rushed to the tarmac in anticipation of an emergency landing. While IAF officials are silent on the issue, they confirmed that both the pilots and aircraft were unharmed in the incident.
Several civilian flights like Jet Airways, Air Deccan, Indian and Spice Jet, had to be diverted and were delayed for over two hours as the runway was not available during the procedure.
