Air India Express aborts flight, blames it on crew crunch

Forty passengers travelling on the Mumbai-Delhi-Dubai Air India Express (flight number IX 201 D), the low-cost international carrier, were stranded at Mumbai’s international airport on Tuesday as the flight was delayed for eight hours. The reason: No crew.
“We do not have a crew for this flight,” a senior manager of Air India reportedly told passengers, citing this as the reason for the delay and subsequent cancellation of the flight.
Terminal 2C was chaotic as angry passengers wanted to know the flight status and were not given any information.
The passengers were angry because of the treatment meted out to them by the airport officials. “Officials are very rude. None of the airport managers have come to talk to us or take responsibility. We were told that this is a low-cost carrier and we will have to put up with the delay,” said Suhana Singha, 24, who was travelling to Dubai.
An Air India spokesperson said, “The Dubai airport was shut down for several hours on Monday, and there was a backlog. Due to two-duty time limit, another crew was not available for Tuesday’s flight.”
