Air travellers win battles after being taken for a ride

Mumbai: They had booked a flight, but their airline put them on a bus instead after their flight was cancelled. The low-cost airline has not compensated the elderly couple for the hardship, but after three months, it has at least agreed to return the airfare.
Three months ago, Amulyadhan and Shova Chakraborty, both senior citizens, were on a Spice Jet Kolkata-Chennai-Bangalore flight whose Chennai-Bangalore leg was cancelled due to technical problems.
"In this case though, some passengers were booked on another flight, while about 10 to 20 of them were put on a bus and sent to Bangalore," said Sudhakara Reddy, chairman of Air Passengers Association of India.
On reaching Bangalore, the Chakrabortys complained to the airline, but did not get a response. "It was only after continuously pursuing the matter that the airline finally decided to pay the passengers," said Reddy. Last week, Spice Jet agreed to pay a sum of Rs 5,840, which was the airfare amount of Chennai-Bangalore leg.
