More trouble is in store for the proposed Mumbai international airport expansion plans. Questioning the lopsided rehabilitation policy adopted by the state, the BJP will kick start a campaign against the GVK-SA led consortium from Holi day, to oppose a drive to relocate slum dwellers in Mankhurd and Dahisar.
“We are not against airport expansion in terms of a new terminal building or new runway. But why throw out the people from the area to build five-star hotels and malls, when they can be easily rehabilitated under the Slum Rehabilitation Scheme, as was done in the case of Grand Intercontinental hotel?” questioned Vinod Tawde, state BJP General Secretary.
Questioning the mode of rehabilitation policy — which relocates people far into localities without amenities — the BJP leaders now want a debate on the issue.
