Gujarat police today unearthed E-ticketing fraud by credit cards. The accused, two young boys used to book air tickets and then sell them at 30 percent lower rates. Police believe the fraud amount to be Rs.2 crore which is likely to be quite high as further details come up during investigation.
The duo had started a call centre from a rented office in the Navrangpura area of the city. It was from here that they managed their operations. One of the two accused Usmanbin Abdullah (29) lived in Hyderabad while the other one Manish Kakadia (24) lived in Jaltarang Park society, New Naroda. Manish studied till 10th standard.
Through the executives of their call centre they used to offer Reliance credit cards to customers as a promotional offer. In the process they took a Xerox copy of the original card of the prospective customer. From these Xerox cards, they used to book tickets. They mostly booked tickets of KingFisher and Spice Jet airlines.
The scam came to light after complaints of two ICICI Bank credit card holders, Vinodbhai Barot from whose account Rs.41,300 and Miten Mehta from whose account Rs.18,800 were credited for air tickets.
