Indian Airlines Ex-pilot ‘guilty’ of killing 9 rhinos

Kasara (Chitwan- Nepal): Former airline pilot Ramesh Chandra Pokharel Tuesday confessed that he shot dead nine rhinos in Chitwan National Park (CNP) and surrounding forests.
Pokharel, 76, from Dilli Bazar Kathmandu, who worked for 25 years as a Nepal Airlines Corporation pilot, and also with Indian Airlines revealed that he regularly got bullets for his SLR rifle from Jemadar Madhav Kumar Budhathoki, working at military academy of Nepali Army at Amlekhgunj.
He disclosed this at a press meet held at Kasara office of the CNP, which sent eight accused, including Pokharel, to Bharatpur prison. Goods confiscated from them were displayed at the meet.
A team led by Ana Nath Baral, assistant Protection Officer of the CNP, had arrested Pokharel on February 17 from his residence in Kathmandu. The team also confiscated a rhino horn from his car and a caliber 30.06 automatic rifle during the arrest.
