New Delhi: Asserting that a solution would be found in the next few days regarding the proposal to increase peak-time operation charges for airlines at key airports to reduce congestion, Union Civil Aviation Secretary Ashok Chawla said over the weekend that ways and means to decongest airports at peak time have to be found.
Speaking at India Aviation Forum-2007 organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry and KPMG, Mr. Chawla said the Airport Economic Regulatory Authority Bill to deal with airport tariffs and other disputes would be introduced in the ongoing budget session of Parliament.
A joint paper released by KPMG and CII on the aviation industry pointed out the need to develop non-metro locations to support the domestic network.
The paper recommended that brown-field projects be given the same tax incentives as green-field projects owing to the fact that substantial investments are being made towards upgrading airport facilities, which result in creation of new assets -- runways, taxiways and safety devices.
