New Delhi: Thefts at international airports across the country have increased by over 200 per cent during the last three years, the Lok Sabha was informed today.
Replying to a question by National Conference MP Abdul Rashid Shaheen, Minister of State for Civil Aviation Praful Patel said the number of thefts reported in 2004, 2005 and 2006 were 89, 103 and 208 respectively.
Patel said several steps were being taken to counter such crimes, including the installation of surveillance cameras for round-the-clock monitoring of staff and passengers, deployment of security personnel by different airlines and increased vigil by police.
