"Foreign pilots should be put through tests"

Chennai: Director-General of Civil Aviation authorities are not insisting that foreign pilots in India undergo strict medical tests, D. Sudhakara Reddy, founder and president, Air Passengers Association of India, said on Monday.
Mr. Reddy said Indian pilots were undergoing thorough and stringent medical tests, which should be applicable to foreign pilots too.
As these pilots were given a temporary licence to fly, the authorities were not insisting on strict medical tests.
Moreover, most were flying for a longer period than the stipulated one.
Mr. Reddy said the DGCA was permitting pilots holding U.S.-based Federal Aviation Authority licence to fly even after they attained superannuation. This was a violation.
