Apprehension over Tulihal airport expansion plan

Imphal: RK Anand, MLA for Naoriya Pakhanglakpa Assembly constituency, has expressed strong concern over media reports regarding plans for the expansion of Imphal`s Tulihal airport, which could involve the acquisition of some 500 acres of adjoining land.
Raising a calling attention motion on the matter in the state Assembly today, RK Anand said the reports in this respect have created strong anxiety among the members of the public settled in the vicinity of the airport, and sought a clarification from the government.
Anand pointed out that most of the adjoining land were privately owned homestead or farmland, and warned that any government move for taking over such land could provoke the people`s anger and give rise to law and order problems.
Anand reiterated that the expansion plans should not be taken up without considering how they would affect the people living in the neighbourhood.
