Bartleman won't quit over Air India fiasco

Toronto: The former diplomat who stunned the Air India inquiry won't resign his post as Ontario's lieutenant-governor after testifying he possessed intelligence that indicated an attack on the airline was imminent just days before the 1985 bombing.
Lieutenant-Governor James Bartleman said yesterday he had no doubt the RCMP assessed the document he passed on and acted appropriately. He repeated that he waited two decades to come forward because he had nothing to add to the investigation.
Yesterday, Bartleman said no one could have imagined that questions surrounding the case would carry on for two decades. Families of Air India victims say they've suspected for the past 22 years that something could have been done to avert the tragedy.
Bartleman, former head of security and intelligence at Foreign Affairs, testified he was told the RCMP already knew about the intelligence.
