Delhi runway needs to be broaden

It is being seen as the future of air travel and as the Airbus A380 comes to India the lucky ones are passengers from Delhi and Mumbai.
The flight, that can carry upto 800 passengers, has a wingspan almost as wide as a football field. The plane can fly non-stop from Chicago to Sydney.
The Airbus A380 touched down at the Indira Gandhi International airport a little after 10:30 am (IST) on Sunday. But this was just a fly-by as the pilot wanted to check the runway for himself.
Its maximum capacity is 800 people but on board were only about 85 crew and some journalists.
The flight came from France to test whether it can use the Delhi and Mumbai airports.
The superjumbo dwarfs most aircraft, usually seen in India,.like the Boeing 737.
It is not just size but also in-flight services in which the super jumbo surpasses the smaller Airbus A320s or Boeing 737s.
Where it actually wins is its top deck, which is longer and wider. This means anywhere from 100 to 240 more passengers depending on the division of the classes.
"We are modelling our airport to accommodate the Airbus A380, we presently need to broaden the runway of the Delhi airport. The Hyderabad airport is especially being upgraded on these lines for Airbus A380," said Arun Arora, Vice-President, Corp communication, GMR Group.
