There was confusion among passengers yesterday over changes to Gulf Air's flight schedule.
At least one travel agent reported being contacted by angry customers, who booked flights only to discover that their routes, arrival times and departure times had subsequently been changed.
One passenger, who booked a flight from Bahrain to Delhi, India, and then onto Chandigarh, discovered that his journey had later been re-routed to pass through Muscat, Oman.
However, he discovered that as a result of the change he would arrive in Delhi five hours after his connecting flight was due to depart.
"I have travelled hundreds of times and airlines do not change bookings without letting people know.
"A booking should not be changed at the airline's will, it should be only changed by the passenger. It is ok for me because I am travelling next month so there is time to sort it out, but what if someone is travelling tomorrow?"
One Manama-based agent, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the practice had only been occurring since the airline's new management team took over.
"It is mostly in economy class - for business and first class customers they will take a bit more care," he told the GDN.
"If they cancel a flight for any reason they have the responsibility to advise the passengers".
