Nagpur: Exposed after MP Babubhai Katara of Gujarat was nabbed at New Delhi airport, incidents of human trafficking reportedly take place in other cities too, including Nagpur, Pune and Mumbai.
A security officer at Dr Baba Ambedkar International Airport, Nagpur, told TOI that the 'lax and insincere attitude of the officers at emigration desk nationwide has triggered a rise in cases of human trafficking in the country.'
In countries where a visa is available upon arrival, chances to gain an illegal entry become easier, pointed out the officer. "A large number of travellers with fake documents from Nagpur take help of brokers to fly to the Middle East," said a source from city police.
Citing an incident that took place in Nagpur recently, the airport security officer informed that around 10 persons had slipped out of the emigration check last year and flew abroad. The passengers, all bona fide, were lucky to receive visa upon arrival in Bangkok.
Though not on as large a scale as, say, Mumbai, kabutarbazi in smaller centres like Nagpur and Pune is no longer a discreet affair, opined the experienced officer. Reportedly, a large of number of travellers from Nagpur were returned from foreign destinations for carrying fake documents last year.
