Mallya’s wordplay on Air Deccan

Bangalore: UB group chairman Vijay Mallya on Monday played with words while replying whether Kingfisher Airlines is buying a stake in India's first low-cost carrier Air Deccan. “Am I interested? Then my answer is yes. If you ask me if I am immediately acquiring, then no,” he said in Delhi.
Air Deccan, however, denied it is up for sale.
Industry watchers said there were no synergies between Mallya's full-service Kingfisher Airlines and Gopinath’s no-frills carrier Air Deccan. “It is unnatural. I don’t see any synergy between the two companies, except for, may be the technical aspects. Both cater to different masses. Deccan’s low cost model cannot be accommodated into the Kingfisher style of flying,” an industry source said.
To take its operations forward, Air Deccan has been trying to raise close to $100 million from the market and speculations are rife that it is in talks with private equity firms to make a placement.
