Nagpur: The Airports Authority of India has now formulated plans to increase apron area of Nagpur airport to create more parking bays for planes and plans to have four aerobridges at the terminal building. An AAI official said the scope of airport expansion project has increased and also on cards is a wastewater recycling plant which will make available treated water for air-conditioning in the terminal and the proposed landscaped garden.
Work on airport expansion began in June last year and so far only 45% work is complete. As per initial plans, the expansion work was to be completed by September, but now AAI has stretched the deadline by two months.
"Initially we had planned for two aerobridges but now we propose to have two more. We will have more parking bays and additional check-in counters and kiosks with passenger amenities outside the terminal building," said an AAI official.
Currently domestic and international operations are using the same premises. However, after the revamp, there will be separate areas for domestic and international flights, the official added.
