ONGC to produce ATF from gas

Hazira: ONGC has pulled off a breakthrough, turning gas to kerosene and refining it to power jet aircraft.
ONGC's plans are taking off in Hazira where it will make 18,000 kilolitres of ATF every month to be doubled in the next three-five years.
If that happens, ONGC will be a big player in aviation fuel now dominated by IOC, BPCL and HPCL.
"We have started ATF production from mid of this March but the biggest piece of news to be proud is that in our Hazira plant we are producing ATF from gas while all other petro companies produce ATF only from crude oil, an expensive proposition," said RS Sharma, CMD, ONGC.
India's most valuable company is now supplying its own helicopter bases with fuel. But soon India's airlines will start getting supplies.
"While I can guarantee 100 per cent of that within India, no other company except ONGC has the technology to produce ATF from gas, even in overseas countries they produce it only from crude oil," added Sharma.
