Stranded passengers at Kathmandu block int'l flights for hours

Kathmandu: International flights were disturbed for four hours on Tuesday as stranded passengers of Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) took control of the departure lounge of Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) and barred passengers of others airlines to board aircraft.
Biman Bangladesh's flight for Dhaka, Indian Airlines flight for Calcutta and New Delhi, Air Sahara's flight for New Delhi were delayed due to the passenger's protest, causing a number of passengers to miss their connecting flights.
The passengers were protesting against the corporation's apathy and mismanagement that caused them to be stranded for a week.
Around 190 passengers closed the departure door of the lounge from 2 pm to 6 pm.
However, the agitating passengers withdrew their protest after NAC assured them that it will arrange a flight to take them to Dubai by Wednesday. The national flag carrier cancelled its twice-a-week flights for Dubai since last April 26 because of technical problems in its Boeing 757s.
According to a stranded passenger, NAC took passengers to the airport at around six in the morning to board them into a flight bound for Dubai. However, they were kept without serving any food until late afternoon.
