AI's engineering services to have other players

Mumbai: After its merger with Indian, Air India would throw open its engineering services for other domestic players, Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel said on Saturday.
"Post-merger, we would leverage the engineering strength of Air India by outsourcing its services to others," he said.
Patel was in the city to release a study on Indian Civil Aviation Industry authored by Ernst and Young and commissioned by Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India.
Air India (AI) has also tied up with Boeing to set up a maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility at Nagpur. In an earlier interview, Air India CMD V Thulasidas said the MoU is ready to be signed between the carrier and Boeing for this purpose. AI has ordered 68 new aircraft from Boeing.
A third party would join the AI-Boeing team for the MRO facility and that would be ready by the year-end, Thulasidas had said.At present, domestic players look to the Gulf for carrying out repairs and maintenance work for their aircraft.
