New Delhi: The agitating Indian Airlines employees have a comrade in power circles — Left-backed trade unions on Wednesday stepped in to support the indefinite strike. CPM-affiliated Citu and CPI’s Aituc have asked civil aviation minister Praful Patel to revoke the suspensions and convene a meeting with the airline union.
The comrades’ solidarity with employees—even as Mr Patel termed the strike illegal and warned of consequences if it was not withdrawn—only spells further trouble for the government. Citu and Aituc have said that the wages of the employees have not been revised since 1997 and asked the government to concede to the ‘legitimate demands’ of the employees.
It also denounced the stand of the Indian Airlines management saying it would cause a lot of inconvenience and problems for air passengers.
In a separate statement, Aituc demanded the fulfilment of all pending issues, including those arising out of the merger of Air-India and Indian Airlines.
